Protect Kids From Lead Coalition’s new report reveals the alarming scope of lead-contaminated water in Illinois, the state with the highest number of lead service lines in the country. Using data from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Water Infrastructure and Capacity Assessment Tool, the report spotlights the communities with the highest number of repeated lead action level exceedances, as well as communities that have experienced an exceedance in 2025. While lead service line replacements will take years to complete, families across Illinois need protection now.
